In addition to analyzing various texts in class, we get creative throughout the year, showcasing our writing skills through personal pieces including poems, memoirs, short stories, and more. Check out some exemplary pieces from our students below!
Poetry
"The Heaven That They Talked About" by Rubi Zabielowicz Wondering off to somewhere - Wonderful. Somewhere with grass so green words cannot describe. Somewhere with water so clear and blue that it looks as if billions of sapphires ran through it - like wild steeds. Somewhere with creatures unimaginable. Creatures that live - in red hot lava, crystal aqua waters, earthy green land, and dark blue skies. Their fur a silky velvet blanket wrapping around my body. I end my slumber in a white room with white furniture and a white dress on. I recollect no memory of being Here. Machines I’ve never seen surround me. People in suits look at me with astonishment. “My dream WAS real,” I counteract. But they don’t know what I have seen or touched. |
"Forgotten" by Sean Kelly Do you remember being born? Do you remember when you were first scorned? The most important things forgotten: your first laugh, your first tear. Do you remember the first time you had fear? Do you remember learning to speak? Or being told a bird has a beak? If you could remember, you might be more happy. Do you remember your first view of your pappy? Would you not be glad if you could remember, your very first Christmas in your very first December? Don’t forget the bad things - they are as important as the good times. Do you remember your first cut, or the death of your childhood mutt? They may be sad, but remember; If you face and accept them you will be glad. Glad for the lessons that have shaped your fate. Glad for the times your homework was late. They were all lessons you see. So try to hold on to all the memories you have left. If you do, you can happily, forever rest. |
"Artwork"
by Stephanie Beyer Pencils sharpened to a point, Paper white and crisp. Mind stirring with ideas... Which one should I grasp today? i pick out the smallest one, It starts to grow as i think- Turning into a huge translucent blob. The idea flows through my pencil, Turning into images, Making scribble after scribble, Filling up page after page. The pencil stops moving, Leaving beautiful art behind. I put it carefully in a frame, Carved out of the finest wood. it is hung in an art-show, I wait to see results. a blue ribbon flies by- I sulk in disappointment. Better luck next time... |
"Creepy Kitty" by Kally Runner Creepy Kitty, Kitty Creepy, I hear you in the howling wind. Flashing yellow, beady eyes, A gnarly hunch up to the sky. Is it true what they say, When a black cat comes your way? Creepy Kitty, Kitty Creepy I hear you call in the dark of night. I see you crawl in the full moon's light. Silently, you turn to me, and pounce down from the dead Oak tree. Creepy Kitty, Kitty Creepy, I hear you in the howling wind. |
"Disney" by Faith Honey Cinderella kept a heart of gold even when challenges came her way. Aurora slept 100 years. Belle fell in love with a hideous beast. Jasmine married a common thief. Moana restored the heart to a lava monster to save her land. Ariel left her life under the sea for a man. Snow White risked her life staying in the castle with the Evil Queen. Rapunzel stayed curious even when it threatened to kill her. Tiana kissed a prince and turned amphibious. Mulan became a man to keep her father. Pocahontas left John to save her land . Elsa thawed her destruction with love. Alice fell through a rabbit hole. Ralph went through multiple challenges (games) to become loved. Mowi met the daughter of the chief and together restored the heart of Tafiti. Judy Hopps made a mistake, but solved it by apologizing and fixing it. Dory remembered and found her family. It's all about smiles and tears… because loving something deeply means facing your biggest fear. |
"Anti-Bullying" by Haylee Munger You push me to the ground, you have me on my knees, you don't know what you've done- Just stop this please. I've got a desire to go tell my mom But you threaten me every day... of every month. They see my bruises, They see my tears, But they just keep walking- and cover their ears. Don't want to go through this or even go to school, But I can't do that either... kids are so cruel. Why do you laugh? Is it really that funny? You mess with my emotions- you call me scummy. Everyone ignores me when I'm in the most pain, You'll catch me walking alone in the rain. I'm done with it all, so I'm saying goodbye... I know they're just bullies but I'm done trying. |
"Baby Goats" by Kylee Burke Baby goats are really called kids. I have 5 goats total… they take naps with me. Goats are very loveable too. They come in assorted sizes - tiny, medium, large, jumbo. They also come in many colors - Red-ish-brown, black, white. After they have babies, we can milk them. Their milk can be used for human babies who can't tolerate cow's milk because the fat globules are smaller than cow’s milk. They come in assorted breeds - Nigerian, Dwarf, Nubian, Alpine, Miotionic, Lamanchas and Bores... and maybe more, but that's all I know. Males and females both have horns… but you can get them debudded when they're babies. They eat most everything- including homework (trust me) and your clothes too. They’re born with fur...and their eyes open. This is why I love goats and I hope you do too. |
